Here are ways you can be more welcoming in your neighborhood, workplace and faith community.

  • Join a Planning Committee for a Welcoming Week Event 
  • Join our Welcoming Cities Task Force in one of the following focus areas:
    • Education (adult and youth education)
    • Social Services (housing, public benefits and city services)
    • Public Safety (law enforcement, fire, animal care and control, zoning issues, and emergency services)
    • Economic Development and Employment (business ownership support, credentialing and expanding employment opportunities)
    • Civic Engagement/ Community Engagement (connecting immigrants to the community and the  community to immigrants, citizenship and various volunteer opportunities)
    • Health and Wellness (including mental and physical health and access to health insurance).
  • Follow Welcoming Indianapolis on Facebook at facebook.com/WelcomingIndianapolis for ideas and for information about upcoming events.
  • Organize a Film Screening
    • Bring together members of your community, place of worship, workplace, etc. to watch Welcome to Shelbyville, a film about fostering dialogue between native-born and foreign-born residents. Contact us at welcome@immigrantwelcomecenter.org to make arrangements.
  • Tell Your Story
    • Did you or your family recently become Hoosiers? Or did you embrace newcomers in your neighborhood? Tell us your story!
